Unn-Britt Johansson

Unn-Britt Johansson is a Professor in Nursing Science at Sophiahemmet University and have the position as the Dean of Education.

Her research is centred around Diabetes Care, Prevention and E-health. The research includes co-creating innovations, caring-models, questionnaires and educations in diabetes care and other areas through collaboration with patient associations, companies, people with diabetes and the profession as well as the community.

Currently the group leader of  “Preventive and health-promotioning healthcare” at Sophiahemmet University.

Unn-Britt is a registered nurse since 1989 and received a PhD degree of Medical Science at Karolinska Institutet in 2000 with the thesis “Insulin treatment in type 1 diabetes: studies of blood glucose variability in relation to insulin pump therapy, gastric emptying and quality of life. 

The ongoing research is conducted in a multidisciplinary environment involving researchers, PhD students and postdoctoral students and health professionals from different disciplines.

The goal of Unn-Britts research is to make a difference in diabetes care.

Current projects

Person-centred care with periodic continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and AI technology for type 2 diabetes in primary care. 

The overall aim is to evaluate person-centred care with periodic CGM and AI technology to improve glycaemic control, patient participation, well-being and treatment satisfaction for type 2 diabetes in primary care.

A personalised digital intervention supporting healthy lifestyle behaviours.

The overall aim of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness of the digital intervention (EviBody) in supporting healthy lifestyle behaviours and improving well-being among.

In 2013 was promoted to Professor in Nursing Science at Sophiahemmet University

Experience of assignments from the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) and the National Board of Health and Welfare as a scientific expert in the compilation of knowledge and evaluation of diabetes care, respectively. 

International assignments, e.g. being a board member of the Foundation of European nurses in Diabetes (FEND) 2008-2014 and the abstract committee 2020-2023. In 2015 was steam leader for Education & Integrated Care at the World Diabetes Congress 2014-2015 for the International Diabetes Federation, IDF and a member of the Diabetes Education Consultative Section (DECS). 

Experience of assignments in research funds such as vice chairman, Scientific Council, Diabetes Foundation 2012-ff and member of the Scientific Council Diabetes Wellness 2012-2014.
