Titel
Corona and Manual Professions (CAMP-study)
Background
The majority of Sweden’s licensed chiropractors and naprapaths are small business owners or sole proprietors, likely without large financial margins. The vast majority work in private practices and are considered “allied health care professionals” as they often work outside the established health care system, which means financial vulnerability if the therapist is forced to suspend operations due to illness or government decisions such as during a pandemic.
Aim
The purpose was to study how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the work environment, health and finances of licensed chiropractors and naprapaths.
Method
A prospective cohort study in which 816 clinically active licensed chiropractors and naprapaths were followed with web-based surveys on five occasions over a year. In semi-structured interviews, experiences of working clinically during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden were mapped.
Significance
By investigating a vulnerable professional category during the pandemic, lessons can be learned that can also be applied to other healthcare professionals and other small business owners, so that they can be better equipped to face similar situations in the future.
