Emelie Karlsson

Emelie Karlsson is a researcher at Sophiahemmet University. She is a registered physiotherapist with several years of clinical experience in postoperative rehabilitation and neurology in hospital. She has also supervised physiotherapy students in clinical settings and has been an clinical lecturer for several years.

Her thesis focused on physical performance and home-based exercise in older adults undergoing abdominal cancer surgery. Her overall research focus is physical activity and physical capacity in older adults. She has experience with a variety of scientific methods, both quantitative (feasibility, intervention, and cohort studies), qualitative (interview studies), as well as mixed methods.

She is driven by conducting research close to clinical practice, aiming to benefit the person, the patient, healthcare, and society at large, with a focus on the aging population.

Current project

Emelie has a study coordinating and project managing role in the ongoing Get Back study, which involves a digital person-centered rehabilitation program for people undergoing lumbar spine surgery due to spinal stenosis. Principal Investigator Mari Lundberg.
